PORT CITY RC’ers TEAM FUN-FLY 2008 Contest rules
GENERAL
A $5.00 entry fee per contestant. All participants names will be drawn, and placed on a team. Each team will consist of 4 members. Each Team will fly each event. If a member is unable to continue, the alternate may replace him starting with the next event. Each pilot is allowed 2 airplanes, but you must fly the plane that you start with unless the CD has determined that it is unable to fly.
The backup plane must belong to the pilot. If a pilot has destroyed both of his contest birds..........borrowed, or donated aircraft will be allowed, by majority vote of all the pilots.
No repairs to the structure or control surfaces will be allowed. Any minor repairs (engine adjustments, glow plugs, props, straightening landing gear, replacing landing gear bolts) must be approved by the C.D.
Every effort will be made to get each pilot into the air for every event. However if a pilot is holding up and event, the C.D. reserves the right to rule on his continuing status.
No aborted approaches allowed. Any aborts or flybys will be counted as an attempt once the plane leaves the ground.
Once an event starts the poles or carrier will not be shifted for wind until the next event. Flying order will be determined by a draw of name cards.
SCORING
All 4 pilots will accumulate a score on each event. Individual scores will be kept and totaled separately. A club may enter a team with less than 4 members.
Team members do not have to be members of the club they are flying for. Vacant flying positions may be filled by non-members paying the $5 fee.
All pilots must have current A.M.A.
TROPHIES
The team with the most points from all of the events will be awarded the “Team Trophy”. This trophy is a “Roving trophy”. The Team winning it will only have possession until the next Team Fun Fly. Each time a team wins the trophy, a plaque showing the date, and name of the team, and the pilots names will be placed on the trophy.
A second trophy will be awarded to the individual who accumulates the highest individual score. This trophy will also be a “roving trophy” and will be handled in the same way as the “Team Trophy”.
DEAD STICK LANDING
Dead stick landings will only be made at the end of the contest, in case of a tie for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places for individual high scores and to break a tie for team Hi score for 1st,2nd,and 3rd places.
Layout: A spot will be marked out in the center of the flying field.
Object: Position the airplane in the air over the spot, cut the engine, and land the airplane as close to the spot as possible. Once the airplane has touched its wheels to the ground, the pilot may not advance the throttle. To do so will be an immediate disqualification, which will resort in a zero score! The plane must be upright and resting on it’s wheels. The distance from the center of the spot to the tip of the prop spinner (nose on a twin) will determine the location.
Scoring
Anything within 2 feet will be a bulls-eye, 25 points (maximum) , anything over 50 feet, no points. All tied scores will be flown again until a winner has been determined!
CARRIER DECK LANDING
A simulated flight deck is laid out 30ft.wide by 120ft. long. This deck will be divided into “Points Boxes”. Box #1 is 40 ft. long and will be marked as “25 points”. The remaining boxes will be 20 ft. long, and will be marked “20 points”,”15 points”, “10 points”, and “5 points”.
A special “BONUS BOX” will also be installed inside the “5 point box”. This Bonus Box will measure 10 feet X 10 feet, with the furthest line located at the outside deck line, or Splash line, and will be marked “50 Points”.
Object of Event
Make 3 take-offs and landings from the deck, unless you are disqualified in the process by going off the deck. You are off the deck, or “SPLASHED” if any wheel or supporting point goes over any line outlining the deck, or if your engine has stopped. ( ALL previously accumulated points will count). The landing gear will determine the scoring box. If any wheel crosses a line the furthest box that it crosses into will determine the score. The airplane must come to a full stop until the C.D. determines the score. The first take-off does not have to be from the deck.
BONUS BOX POINTS , can only be made after the Pilot has completed his first 2 Passes.
Bonus Landing: If a pilot has made his three attempts, and has been unable to successfully land on the Carrier Deck, and has not yet “SPLASHED”, that pilot is eligible to make a fourth and FINAL ATTEMPT, or bonus landing for points.
Scoring Maximum 100 points. 2 landings 25 points. Bonus Box 50 points.
